Quick Start with Ultra+

Everything you need to go from zero to playing — install, apply presets, and configure, all in one place. The fastest way to get started is with Ultra+ Manager (UPM), which handles downloading, installing, updating, and configuring Ultra+ for all your games.

In a hurry? Install UPM → click Install Ultra+ on your game → apply the uplus_defaults preset, then a quality preset → launch and play. The sections below cover each step in detail.

1. Install Ultra+ Manager

Download UPM

Download Ultra+ Manager from NexusMods or the Ultra Place Discord.

Install and launch

UPM automatically detects your installed games. If a game isn’t detected, you can manually point it to the game’s root folder.

Click Install

Select a game and click Install Ultra+ (or Update if you already have an older version). That’s it — UPM downloads and installs everything.

Download Example

About UE4SS: Most Ultra+ mods for Unreal Engine games use UE4SS, which is bundled with the mod automatically. If you manage your own UE4SS installation, check the "I manage my own UE4SS" option in UPM to skip those files.
Important: Do not use Engine.ini mods with Ultra+ — they will likely cause crashes or visual issues. Ultra+ already includes comprehensive engine optimizations.

2. Apply presets

Presets are the recommended starting point — don’t change every setting by hand. All up-to-date Ultra+ mods include presets, and quality presets are generated automatically the first time you launch a game.

  1. Apply the uplus_defaults preset first — the recommended baseline for each game
  2. Apply your preferred quality preset, then apply settings as normal
  3. Fine-tune individual settings later if you want

3. Configure your settings

All settings can be tweaked directly in UPM’s game view — no manual file editing needed.

  1. Open UPM and select your game
  2. Adjust settings using the interface
  3. Press F12 in-game to apply changes — no restart needed

Settings Example

F12 conflict: If F12 is set to take screenshots (Steam, etc.), it will conflict with the Ultra+ reload keybind. Disable the conflicting screenshot hotkey or rebind one of them.

For the full list of settings, what each one does, and per-hardware recommendations, see the Configuration guide.

4. Use the in-game overlay (optional)

UPM includes a built-in overlay for changing settings while you play:

5. Play

Launch your game normally. UPM doesn’t need to be running — settings are loaded automatically on game startup.
