Troubleshooting
Shader Cache Issues
Visual Glitches or Crashes: If you experience visual artifacts, rendering issues, or crashes, try clearing your shader cache:
Note: Some files may be in use and cannot be deleted - this is normal and okay. High CPU usage during game startup indicates shader compilation is occurring.
Alternative to deleting entire shader cache: Start the game, close it, then delete only the most recent files from the respective cache folders
NVIDIA Users
- Press Win + R, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\NVIDIA\DXCache and press Enter
- Delete all files in this folder
- Check %LOCALAPPDATA%[GameName] (may be in alternate location but should be next to save files) for upipelinecache or ushaderprecache files and delete them
- Start your game and shader compilation should begin
AMD Users
- Use AMD Adrenalin software > Graphics > Advanced > Reset Shader Cache
- Check %LOCALAPPDATA%[GameName] (may be in alternate location but should be next to save files) for upipelinecache or ushaderprecache files and delete them
- Start your game and shader compilation should begin
Alternative manual method:
- Press Win + R, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\AMD\DxCache and press Enter
- Delete all files in this folder
- Check %LOCALAPPDATA%[GameName] (may be in alternate location but should be next to save files) for upipelinecache or ushaderprecache files and delete them
- Start your game and shader compilation should begin
Advanced Troubleshooting
System-Level Issues
- Perform complete shutdown and cold boot (not restart)
- Update BIOS for latest CPU microcode and stability improvements
- Reduce or disable GPU overclock if experiencing crashes or instability
- GPU driver clean install using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode if issues persist
- Increase TDR timeout if experiencing GPU driver crashes:
- Press Win + R, type regedit and press Enter
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
- Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named TdrDelay
- Set the value to 10 (decimal) for 10 seconds timeout
- Restart your computer
Game-Level Issues
- Clear game config folder - Some games benefit from deleting the Config folder in %LOCALAPPDATA%[GameName]
- Verify game files through Steam/Epic/GOG if issues persist
- Temporarily disable any overlays (Steam, Discord, etc.)
- Update your graphics drivers to the latest version
- Ask for help in the U+ Discord
